WATER SUPPLY IN Morocco

Rabat - Morocco's water resources are sufficient to ensure good supply of the country with drinking and irrigation water, said on Tuesday, Charafate Afilal, Minister Delegate for Water.

Water levels in the country's reservoirs stood at 57.3 % up to August 26, Afilal told MAP, noting that this rate is certainly lower than last year's but still sufficient to meet all domestic needs for drinking and irrigation water.

Some regions in the southeast, particularly the rural areas, suffered "very limited" water shortages, said the Minister Delegate, adding that necessary measures have been immediately taken to contain these situations and overcome water shortages.

"Domestic water resources are under control," Afilal Said. She assured that "the current situation would not cause any concern," adding that this should certainly not encourage wastage and irrational use of water resources.

The current fill rate of Morocco's dams (57.3 %) is equivalent to 9.06 cubic meters (m3), compared to 11.36 billion m3 a year earlier (72.4 %), according to the Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment.
