Rabat- After having been subjected to an unwarranted sexist slur by a French UMP Counselor last week, Moroccan-born NajatVallaud-Belkacem, France’s new Minister of Education, has been reportedly attacked by a French far-right magazine for her religiousand ethnic background.
On Wednesday, France's far-right National Front Party magazine, “Minute” led a racist hate campaign against the Moroccan-born, Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, labeling the appointment of a Moroccan Muslim as France’s new Minister of Education a “provocation.”
According to France 24, the far-right magazine published a picture of the Minister on the cover of its Wednesday issue with the caption: "A Moroccan Muslim heads the national education (ministry). The Najat Vallaud-Belkacem provocation"
Following the Minute’s racial comment, the head of the ruling Socialist Party, Jean-Christophe Cambadélis said that the front page of Minute“is an incitement to hatred. It should be taken to court."
“It is shameful,” stormed the International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism (LICRA), which called for astop on “those who spread hate.”
Minister Vallaud-Belkacem, who does notdiscuss her religion, responded to theracist hate campaign by calling for respect.
“And I repeat in particular that racism is not an opinion, but a crime," MinisterVallaud-
This comes just a few days after the Minister had been the brunt of an unwarranted slur posted on Twitter by Franck Keller, a French UMP Counselor for Neuilly-sur-Seine.
“What assets [has she] used to convince Hollande to appoint her to a large department,” he tweeted. He removed the post, but not before screen captures were taken and several outraged tweets had reacted against his comments.
