Brussels - The European Union (EU) should further support Morocco, which represents a "success story" in the southern neighbourhood, said the new High representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Frederica Mogherini.
The new EU foreign affairs chief who was addressing MEPs during a hearing at the European Parliament in Brussels stressed that the EU should pay more attention to successful countries in its southern neighbourhood, particularly Morocco and Tunisia.
Mogherini stressed in this context the importance for the EU to strengthen cooperation relations with its southern neighbours, "who must no longer be considered as mere aid recipients, but as reel political partners".
The EU has consistently reiterated its determination to engage in long-term cooperation with Morocco, thanks to the Kingdom’s "vision and commitment" and its position within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP).
