Geneva  - The death toll from the Ebola deadly virus outbreak has risen to 4,500 with the number of cases climbing to nearly 9,000, said the World Health Organization (WHO), warning that there could be up to 10,000 new cases per week in two months.

For the last four weeks, there's been about 1,000 new cases per week, including suspected, confirmed and probable cases, WHO assistant director-general Dr. Bruce Aylward pointed out, saying the virus has a 70 % death rate.

Aylward said with this rate, Ebola is "a high mortality disease", noting that the U.N. health agency is focused on trying to get sick people isolated and provide treatment as early as possible to reverse the outbreak.
