French Prime Minister Manuel Valls

Paris -  French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said, here Wednesday, that Morocco is a major partner of France in the fight against terrorism, radical Islam and drug trafficking.

"France is a friend of Morocco, and Morocco is the friend of France," Valls said in response to a question from Chairman of the French-Moroccan friendship group in the National Assembly, Luc Chatel, on the situation of French-Moroccan ties, underlining the need for both paties to "overcome this episode based on many misunderstandings".

"Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius met with his Moroccan peer Salaheddine Mezouar several times in recent weeks. France has made many proposals to quickly re-establish the close ties with Moroccan authorities," he said, announcing that French and Moroccan Justice Ministers will meet Thursday in Paris to help overcome this situation.

Manuel Valls noted that the economic, human, cultural and academic ties and the joint fight against terrorism require Rabat and Paris to overcome "as soon as possible" these misunderstandings and endeavor, as desired by all parliamentarians, to resume this cooperation in the best possible way.

"It is certainly the absolute will of the President of the Republic and the French government," he stressed.
