Geneva - Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs Mbarka Bouaida welcomed, on Tuesday in Geneva, the growing international awareness against torture.
Speaking at a high level panel held on the sidelines of the 28th session of the Human Rights Council, Bouaida recalled that Morocco, Chile, Denmark and Ghana launched a global initiative against torture on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention Against Torture.
The initiative " aims at promoting the ratification and the implementation of the Convention within ten years," noted the Moroccan official.
Bouaida, who was highlighting the regional and global influence of the initiative, has also briefed the audience on Morocco’s efforts to fight torture with the recent depositing of the instruments of ratification of the Optional Protocol to the International United Nations Convention against Torture.
In this connection, Bouaida said Morocco is willing to host the second Forum on the Convention against Torture Initiative (CTI) and to organise regional training seminars in line with the goals set by the initiative.
