Rabat - A Moroccan woman was expelled from her apartment in southern Spain, Spanish daily La Opinion de Malaga reported on Thursday.
Hannan Tibai, a 33-year-old Moroccan woman living in Spain, was evicted on Wednesday from an apartment where she lived with her two children aged 8 and 6 years in the city of Estepona, Southern Spain. Authorities seized her apartment despite the insistence of anti-eviction associations and relatives who came to her support.
The Moroccan woman spent 15 years living in Spain where she married and had two children. When she was in her second pregnancy, her husband abandoned and left her to care for the two children.
Since then Hannan has been subsisting from precarious and temporary jobs, in addition to selling all her belongings from gold to home furniture and household items.
Neighbors have also helped the Moroccan woman through her ordeal by providing her with food and clothes.
"The money that she could save was used to pay for electricity and water and, nevertheless, she remained nine months without electricity," said Emma Molina, a friend of Hannan.
According to the same source, Hannan has spent six years thinking that her husband had already paid the mortgage of the apartment where she lived with her two children. She learned of the situation only last year when she received a notice from the court
Hannan is a cook and a cleaner and now her priority is to get a job.
She spent the night after her eviction in an Estepona's city hall pension. They also offered her a rental assistance of 1.800 Euros. "The problem is to find someone who will rent her a house with this situation, said her friend Emma.
