Houthi Rebels Hands Corpse of Yassine Bahti to Morocco

Rabat - The Houthi rebels have allegedly handed the corpse of Moroccan pilot Yassine Bahti to the International Committee of Red Cross, according to Yemeni media

The same source added that the ICRC handed the corpse of the deceased pilot to the Moroccan commando that had been deployed to Yemen and entrusted it with finding his whereabouts.

According to the same source, the Houthis decided to hand Yassine’s remains after a successful  mediation by Moroccan-British national Jamal Benomar, former United Nations envoy to Yemen.

Pictures widely shared in Yemeni social media show a coffin being carried out by members of CIRC, as well as the wreckage of the Moroccan F-16 that crashed in Yemen.

At the time of writing, Moroccan authorities have neither confirmed this information nor the veracity of the pictures.

There has been uncertainty about the fate of the 26-year old Moroccan with conflicting reports from Moroccan authorities and the Saudi-led command.

Last Friday, Moroccan Royal Forces announced that it had found the corpse of the Moroccan pilot whose plane had crashed on Sunday May 12th.

But on Saturday, Saudi Brigadier-General Ahmed al-Asiri, the coalition’s spokesperson, denied reports that the corpse of the Moroccan pilot had been found, adding that he was “still missing.”

“For the coalition, the Moroccan pilot is still missing, no more than that. His body hasn't been found yet,” Ahmed al-Asiri was quoted by Saudi Arabian channel Al-Arabiya as saying.
