Rabat - Morocco's election as a member of the UNHRC is an international recognition of constitutional and institutional reforms undertaken by King Mohammed VI, a statement by the foreign affairs ministry said.
Morocco was elected on Tuesday as new member of the Council of Human Rights of the United Nations (UNHRC) for a term of three years, effective January 1, 2014, following the vote of 163 members of the General Assembly of the United Nations. This election is an international recognition of constitutional and institutional reforms undertaken by King Mohammed VI and is in line with the domestic democratic choices and Morocco's unwavering and irreversible commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights in the world, the statement added. The Kingdom's commitments to human rights are the continuation, internationally, of the national dynamic for democracy, the rule of law and human rights. They promote Morocco's option, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, for the universal values of equality between sexes, pluralism, moderation, tolerance, peaceful coexistence and dialogue between civilizations and cultures, it said.
