Cheb-Khaled-(2013-09-19)

Casablanca- “Cheb Khaled brags about his friendship with King Mohammed VI, “Algerian news outlet Echoroukonline titled one of its recent articles.

According to the Algerian newspaper, the Rai superstar had remained silent since he was subject to harsh attacks after he had acquired the Moroccan nationality.

According to the same source, harsh criticism was leveled against the king of Rai on various social networks because of “his failure to attenuate Algerian people’s outrage at him after he acquired Moroccan citiznehsip.”

One of the things Cheb Khalid was harshly criticized for, according to Echoroukonline, was that “he used his profession as an artist to justify his disinterest in the politics of his mother nation.”

Cheb Khaled did not comment on Algeria’s recent uproar after a Moroccan took down the Algerian flag from the top of its consulate in Casablanca.

The fact that Cheb Khaled, one of Algeria’s most famous artist, remained indifferent to the recent developments in Algerian-Moroccan relations has, according to the same source, accentuated Algerian people’s hostility against him.

Cheb Kahled also appeared in Algerian TV Show “Sabah Al Arabia,” in which he stated that he aspires for a stronger Maghreb Union, citing the European Union as an ideal model.

On the same TV Show, Aicha’s singer stated that he wouldn’t hesitate to use his art as a means of fixing what politics altered in the relation between his mother land, Algeria, and his second country, Morocco.

Cheb Khaled also called for the reconstruction of a stronger Maghreb Union, citing the European Union as a model, by stressing the importance of developing and maintaining relations of fraternity and inter-cooperation among the countries of the region.

According to Echoroukonline, the Algerian people were highly disappointed at Cheb Khaled, for they expected him to express his regret over acquiring the Moroccan nationality while a guest on TV5’s TV show, L’invité.

According to the same source, Cheb Khaled was seen as “bragging about his friendship with King Mohammed VI,” after he responded positively to the question asked by L’invité’s host on this particular friendship with the Moroccan monarch.

What added insult to injury, according to Echoroukonline is that Cheb Khaled stated that he would continue to turn a deaf ear to those who denounced his acquisition of the Moroccan citizenship.

Khaled also claimed that he “speaks through the voice of Moroccan youth,” and that he did not care about the wave of attacks that targeted him after he became Moroccan.
