Rabat - Two days after denying the terrorizing videos which flooded social media showing criminals attacking civilians with knives and swords, Moroccan police announced the arrest of three suspects behind one of these footages.
In a statement released on Saturday, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that three suspects have been arrested over being involved in promoting the video of a crime in Casablanca, containing misleading facts.
The video was posted on a Facebook page and a local Web TV. It shows a young man with a deep wound in his neck. In the footage, the “victim” claims a man stabbed him with a knife after resisting an attempted rape.
Another man is heard at the end of the footage shouting in Moroccan dialect what translates into: “There is no police in this country.”
According to the statement, the police department in Casablanca took the video seriously and conducted a thorough investigation regarding the alleged crime.
In fact, the investigation revealed that the 18-year old “victim” lied in the footage on the reason behind the physical assault, after the two men who recorded the video asked him to fake the facts.
The statement went on to add that this incident has been faked in an attempt to terrorize citizens. “Two people asked the “victim”to allow them to record him while he pretended to be attacked by a man, over refusing to submit to his sexual harassment.”
One of those suspects, on the other hand, recorded himself at the end of the video accusing that there is no security in Morocco, before posting the footage on their Facebook page.
The investigations revealed instead, that the boy was being attacked by a homeless man living in the “victim’s” neighborhood over refusing to buy him “two cigarettes.” “Unlike what was claimed in the footage, it was not an attempted rape.”
The statement concluded that the two suspects along with the “victim” have been arrested over charges of misrepresentation and reporting a fake crime. The attacker, on the other hand, was arrested too, and face trial very soon.
This comes at a time when terrorizing videos showing criminals attacking civilians with knives and swords have flooded social media in Morocco, inciting a fear of lack of security among Moroccans.
On Thursday, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) issued a statement saying most of these videos have been “faked.”
The statement said some of the footages contained crime scenes accrued in other countries. These scenes have been cut from their overall context and mixed with other scenes to make viewers believe the incidents took place in one of the Moroccan cities.
