Moncef and Nabila

Rabat - Moncef Belkhayat has been criticized for describing Nabila Mounib, the secretary general of the Unified Socialist Party (PSU), on Thursday as "a lovely and classy lady".

The former Sports and Youth minister was embroiled in sexism row over Twitter comments yesterday.

The Twitter war of words erupted after Belkhayat, an entrepreneur and a member of the political bureau of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) tweeted in French: "Who is this lovely lady? She seems to me very bourgeois… I find her very classy and very Zaz [chic] ".

The remark seemed to anger twitter users who accused the former minister of being sexist.

Belkhayat has since apologized for his tweet about Nabila Mounib, saying it was not sexist.

He Tweeted "My tweet about Nabila was mere humor…I did not want to be sexist because I am modernist. I apologize if I offended someone".

"And of Course I al apologize to her…It was inappropriate humor".
