Rabat - A police officer had to use his service weapon to stop a suspect involved in a case of assault with knives on Saturday night in Oujda, northeast Morocco.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect ‘forced’ the police officer to pull the trigger.
The officer fired a warning shot in the air before he shot the attacker striking him at the forefoot, informed a statement by the Oujda police.
The statement noted that the suspect, who was born in 1990, and has a criminal record, attacked a passerby with a knife stabbing and seriously wounding him, which required the transfer of the victim to the hospital in critical condition.
The judicial police was immediately dispatched to the scene. The suspect was arrested and reportedly under the influence of drugs and in a severe state of agitation and aggression, forcing the police officer to use his service weapon to stop him.
The suspect was taken to hospital where he received the necessary care, while the condition of the victim is under medical supervision in Oujda’s Al Farabi Hospital.
