Rabat - Moroccan gynecologist, Dr. Zouhair Lahna, announced on Sunday that he would launch a clinic in Casablanca to provide refugees with free health care.
Dr. Zouhair Lahna used Facebook to make the announcement and explain the objectives of this project.
"For a while, I was wondering about the feasibility of setting up a medical center to help the needy and uprooted Syrian and sub-Saharan African refugees whom we come across every day in front of mosques and the junctions of Casablanca’s major axes, with children on their backs, "he wrote.
"These women are asking for help… The children who have become prey to the emanations of car exhausts because of standing under the midday heat, no longer know the path of schools.”
“Thanks to the ongoing encouragement and the effective aid of friends, as well as the support of others, I decided to open a medical center, called ‘Injab’ in Farah Oulfa Salam neighborhood, located in the outskirts of Casablanca,” he added.
Dr. Zouhair Lahna went on to add that the clinic would provide free health care to needy Moroccans, as well as Syrian and Sub-Saharan refugees.
With support from a group of NGO’s, ‘Inajb’ will offer the beneficiaries free preventive and curative care. The medical services will be provided by a team led by the gynecologist, in addition to two general practitioners, a midwife, a social worker and an administrative assistant.
Financially, the center will rely on fund-raising and on donations from NGO’s, government institutions and international partners. .
Zouhair Lahna is known for his humanitarian initiatives. In December 2014, he was selected by Morocco World News among “Moroccan Nationals who Honored their Country in 2014” for volunteering to help treat the Palestinian victims of Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip in 2014.
