Islam Khouialed, a 15 years old Algerian boy, was sentenced to one year in prison for sexually assaulting a young Moroccan athlete, reported Libération.
Khouialed was arrested subsequent to a complaint lodged by the Moroccan victim's father.
Alledgedly, Khouialed sexually assaulted a 12 years old Moroccan athlete who participated with him in a trans-Maghreb sailing course.
Throughout the trial and after the sentencing, the Algerian press has orchestrated a campaign to put pressure on the court, morphing afterwards into a campaign against Morocco.
Sources in the detention center told Libération that Khouialed had brutally assaulted a young inmate causing him serious injuries right before the verdict was announced.
It is alledgedly not certain whether the second victim's family has complained or not, but Khouialed's family are however trying to render this case (with the help of Algerian press and officials) a political affair, reported la Libération.
The Moroccan press and the father's victim managed to keep their composure during the trial hoping that justice be done.
The Moroccan father told Libération that he had confidence in justice and that he would not withdraw his complaint under any circumstances.
